If you're looking for a truly memorable Santa Barbara adventure, you owe it to yourself to take one of our Santa Barbara Channel Marine Life Safaris aboard our 50' sailing catamaran, The Double Dolphin. We offer 5 hour trips leaving 8:00 a.m. Saturdays and Wednesdays.
|
 |
During your Santa Barbara Channel Marine Life Safari, you're likely to see Pacific Grey Whales, Blue Whales, dolphins, harbor seals, sea lions and other exotic marine life. Occasionally we're even lucky
enough to see Orcas, Humpback, Minke, and Pilot
Whales.
The Santa Barbara Channel is home to many
species of marine mammals. In fact, the Santa Barbara
Natural History Museum has documented over 30 species
of cetaceans, or whales and dolphins in the channel, making it one of the most marine-rich areas on the planet. |
 |
From July through September the Blue and Humpback
Whales visit the area to feed on the krill produced
in the Santa Barbara Channel. In recent years
the largest concentration of Blue Whales in
the world has been in our channel in addition
to large numbers of Humpback Whales, which are
usually seen off the coast of Hawaii. |
This year an estimated 28 thousand Pacific
Gray Whales will journey through the Santa Barbara Channel
on their annual migration between Alaska and Baja California.
Although we see the most Gray Whales from mid-February through mid-March on their way up to Alaska from Mexico, we sometimes get to see these magnificent giants during the Summer months too.

Common and Bottle Nose dolphins are seen year round,
frolicking through the Santa Barbara Channel and we see dozens of them just about every day.
The dolphins are an exciting and playful perk
to your channel safari. Lying on the twin nets
aboard the Double Dolphin you can look down
and see the dolphins cruising along the hulls
of the boat. Standing on the cabin top you can
look out and see dolphins leaping out of the water doing flips, twists and turns. |
Harbor Seals and California Sea Lions playfully
sit atop the channel marking buoys around Santa Barbara all year long. As our Channel Safari Cruise departs
from the harbor, you will see the seals and sea lions swimming
around the boat, hopping onto the green or red
and white buoys and playing with each other in the water. Their significant yelps let
you know they are happy to see you.
